I created this project for my Design for User Experience class while I was enrolled at the Maryland Institute College of Art. The prompt was to choose an iOS native application and to propose an enhancement or extension to the app. I chose the Music app and after research, proposed a Social Feature for the app.
For the User Research portion of the project, I interviewed peers and non-peers to discover insights on the existing Music app. I was able to interview a range of individuals of different backgrounds- from college-aged peers to administrative faculty and professionals outside of campus, all owners of an iOS device.
One point that was brought up quite often was that similar music streaming apps gave users the ability to share their music with their chosen friends to some extent, for example- Soundcloud or Spotify. The iOS Music app was comparatively an isolated experience.
I chose this as my Challenge and decided to run with it.
For a successful Social Extension:
Allow users to share their favorite songs with their network of friends
Create opportunities for users to discover new music through user-generated content
Create another reason for users to return to the iOS Music app.
I looked into competitors and analyzed what made them successful and where there was room for improvement.
Here I looked into a few different wireframe set ups that were user-friendly and that would fit with the look and feel of the original Music app.
The design was based off of the existent UI and branding. I kept #FF2D55 Magenta as the accent color and continued the use of light grey to denote interactive modules.
